概要

This course aims to introduce students to some of the ways that popular culture in Japan can be explored through the lenses of anthropology and humanistic inquiry. Course content will introduce relevant key terms drawn from anthropology and consider the ways in which "popular culture" varies and wends its way through the landscape of the geography of Japan. Topics will include both mass-media and socially significant interests in present-day and recent Japan. In completing this course, students will develop an appreciable base of knowledge from which to further their own studies and student interests are welcomed for discussion throughout the course.

目標

1. Explore the variation and meaning found within popular cultural activity in Japan in the present 2. Think about popular culture's place in both specific and general contexts as a vital part of humanistic lived experience 3. Apply analytical tools discussed and learned during the course to various contexts
